LOOP-PRO TRAINERTM

Teaching an industry-relevant process control course is a challenging undertaking, even for companies with in-house training resources. That’s why we developed LOOP-PRO TRAINER, a turn-key solution for companies striving to make the most of their human resource and capital investments.

Training is critical to maintaining a competitive advantage. By equipping staff with essential knowledge and skills, we empower them to positively impact their plant’s performance.

D.F., President, Business Industrial Network

LOOP-PRO TRAINER delivers focused content in a concise fashion. Companion written materials guide teaching and learning to provide a rich educational experience. Flexible enough for custom instruction, TRAINER enables you to provide real-world instruction on proven methods and industry best practices in process control for your industry.

Learn Best Practices With Our Case Studies
Below is a brief overview of how
LOOP-PRO TRAINER employs our innovative "Case Studies" approach. Using TRAINER, operators, technicians and engineers learn about the control of parameters such as temperature, pressure, level, flow and composition on processes with streams comprised of gases, liquids, powders, slurries and melts.

There are many more features then we can show in a few screen shots, so please contact us to learn more and access a free demo.

1) Our Case Studies approach provides hands-on learning in a "hear-see-do" format. The color-graphic simulations respond as you explore and learn new methods in a real-world environment. Because they are simulations, experimentation uses no expensive feedstock or utilities, is available wherever there is a computer, and creates no safety concerns.

The library of Case Studies (examples below) include:
   - Gravity-Drained Tanks
   - Pumped Tank
   - Heat Exchanger
   - Furnace Air/Fuel Ratio
- Jacketed Tank Reactor
- Multi-Tank Process
- Distillation Column
- Cascade Jacketed Reactor
- Finish Mill (NEW)
- Grate Cooler
(NEW)
- Coal Mill
(NEW)
- Jacketed Slurry Cooler
(NEW)

2)
Start a Case Studies process and practice different methods of generating bump test data. Import the data into LOOP-PRO ENGINEER and gain experience with modern methods as you perform a data analysis and then design and tune a controller. You will quickly realize the value of ENGINEER as you use its features and power to explore different algorithms forms, loop architectures, and tune to different performance criteria.

As you test new techniques on the different Case Studies processes and your knowledge and experience grows, ultimately, you will learn how to design and tune a controller that maximizes bottom line return.

3) Each Case Studies process provides its own unique challenges for you to understand and overcome. As you address each challenge, you will learn about the design and tuning of P-Only, PI, PID and PID with Filter controllers. You will explore the benefits and costs associated with feed forward, cascade, Smith predictors, and if you desire, even discrete sampled data and model predictive (DMC) controllers. Test the strengths and learn the pitfalls associated with the different strategies and architectures.

4) While you can learn the core concepts on process control in a focused two day workshop, there are many hundreds of hours of learning contained in the features of LOOP-PRO TRAINER.

Below is the disturbance rejection performance of the jacketed reactor using a cascade architecture. How does this compare to feed forward disturbance rejection? What are the costs and benefits when compared to a single loop PID controller? What if set point tracking is also required? These are just a few of the many "big picture" questions you can explore with LOOP-PRO TRAINER as the software helps you learn and grow.

Companion Written Materials

Lecture Slides
L
OOP-PRO TRAINER comes with more than 230 slides that begin with defining control objectives, proceed through analyzing dynamic process behavior, and then systematically present more than a dozen industry-critical control architectures and strategies.

Practical Process Control Book
While slides are valuable for summarizing concepts, a companion 280 page Practical Process Control textbook provides extensive discussion and detail on the modern methods and best practices for control of parameters such as temperature, pressure, level, flow and composition on processes with streams comprised of gases, liquids, powders, slurries and melts. Like the slides, the book covers basic through advanced process control topics, always focusing on the practical application of most benefit to industry practitioners.

Workshop Challenges
The Hands-On Workshop Series companion book offers 18 workshop challenges for you to confront and overcome. Below are a list of the workshops in the series.

Several of the workshops below link to the controlguru.com online e-book. The e-book articles illustrate the concepts you will explore in that workshop. But these are not the workshop answers! That is for you to learn for yourself using LOOP-PRO TRAINER:
